Evolution Of Internet

1980s and the 1990s – Crucial Decades in the Evolution of Internet
During 1980s, many more computers were connected to the initial ARPANET and the network grew and covered almost all of the U.S. The ARPANET connected different universities to help communication between the researchers and students. To get connected to ARPANET an institute had to take a license from the DoD (U.S. Department of Defense). It was a long process and not every institute was eligible to get the license. So, NSF (the U.S. National Science Foundation) decided to design a network which was open for all the universities to join. This network was implemented using the hardware as the ARPANET used but software was slightly different. The network was named NSFNET.
